12 Healthy Foods Rich In Iodine
Iodine is one of the most vital minerals which is responsible for thyroid function, supporting a healthy metabolism and preventing cancer. It helps in the growth and development of the body. Iodine is considered an important mineral when it comes to the production of hormones in the thyroid glands. An average adult requires 150 micrograms of iodine, pregnant women require 220 micrograms of iodine and breast-feeding women require 290 micrograms of iodine daily.
A lack in iodine or excess of iodine in the body can adversely affect the production of thyroid hormones and thyroid function. A lack in iodine can cause iodine deficiency disorders such as hypothyroidism, auto-immune diseases, goiter and mental retardation in children. Thyroid is responsible for balancing the hormones and if your diet is low in iodine-rich foods, it can lead to weight gain, weight loss, hormone imbalances, mood changes and fatigue.

1. Sea Vegetables
Sea vegetables are one of the richest sources of iodine. Kelp is a seaweed which has the highest amount of iodine with 2000 micrograms of iodine in a serving. Arame and wakame are sea vegetables that contain 730 micrograms and 80 micrograms of iodine, respectively.
2. Cod Fish
Fishes have the ability to extract iodine from the seawater. A 3 ounce serving of cod fish provides 99 micrograms of iodine. Cod fish is a low-calorie and delicious fish loaded with several essential nutrients like omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin D, vitamin E, potassium, folate and protein.
Drinking milk daily will meet your daily requirements of iodine. 1 cup of milk contains 56 micrograms of iodine. Apart from iodine, milk is a good source of vitamin D and calcium. It also contains other minerals like manganese, folate, phosphorous, potassium and magnesium…

This tomato sauce is a great base for loads of recipes like pastas and pizzas. I thought I’d get this one under my belt now so I can start showing you the many recipes that use it!
2tbsp olive oil
2 small-medium red onions
4 cloves of garlic
4tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 x 400g tins chopped tomatoes
1/2tbsp dried oregano
1/2tbsp dried basil
Finely chop red onions and garlic.
Heat olive oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. When hot, add the onions, stir around and fry for 5 minutes.
Next add the garlic, stir again, and fry for another 5 minutes.
Add the balsamic vinegar to the pan, give it a stir around and fry until all the liquid has evaporated.
Add the tins of tomatoes and herbs, mix well, then simmer for 45 minutes on a low heat, stirring occasionally.
Blend for a smooth sauce, or leave as is for a rustic look.

Cure game-day buffalo cravings on a larger scale with these turkey wings.

Buffalo Turkey Wings

4 turkey wings, split into wingettes and drumettes (tips reserved for another use)
Oil, for drizzling
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Blue Cheese Dip:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup crumbled Maytag or other blue cheese
1/4 cup half-and-half
1 tablespoon sour cream
2 teaspoons lemon juice
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 stick unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups hot sauce, such as Frank’s RedHot
Carrot and celery sticks, for serving
For the wings: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Arrange the wings in a single layer on a cooling rack set into a baking sheet. Pat the wings with paper towels until they are very dry, then drizzle with some oil and sprinkle on all sides with salt and a few grinds of black pepper. Add 1 cup water to the bottom of the baking sheet and tent the pan with foil.
Bake for 1 hour 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until the wings are tender, the skin is crispy and brown and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the wing registers 165 degrees F, about 1 hour more. Let cool for 10 minutes.
For the blue cheese dip: Meanwhile, whisk together the mayonnaise, Maytag, half-and-half, sour cream, lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper in a bowl until well combined. Set aside.
For the sauce: Melt the butter in a medium microwave-safe bowl, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the hot sauce and whisk to combine. Brush the wings all over with the sauce, making sure they are well coated. Serve the wings with the remaining hot sauce, blue cheese dip and carrots and celery.
